It's my last show tonight and wouldn't you know it, my internet is down. I guess I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm updating from my phone right now and I don't have the full playlist with me. I can tell you I'm kicking things off with Four Year Strong covering Everclear and The Clash doing I Fought The Law. The rest is a jumbled mess in my brain. I will have all the songs posted in the morning if you're curious.

My time is coming to an end

If you're reading this you've probably already heard that I am stepping down from Noise Complaint. This was not an easy decision for me but I feel that it is the right one. I told myself that as soon as the show stopped being fun and started to feel like work I would walk away. We are at that point.

I started this show about 4 years ago when I left Philadelphia for a job opportunity in D.C. Noise Complaint gave me an opportunity to stay connected with Philly and the (at the time) YRock crew that I had been working with since day 1. It also gave me an escape from my "real job" which wasn't really all that glamorous. Each week I would spend my down time looking up new music from some of punk rock's biggest names as well as the newcomers. I would go out to concerts to see new acts and interview artists. Long story short, I put a lot of time into the show and outside of keeping my job I would have done just about anything for Noise Complaint.

Over the last year or so my schedule has been getting more and more full with my current job. It's a job that I love and one that I had been really working toward. Because of that I've had less time to dedicate for Noise Complaint. When it came time to work on the show it felt like more of a chore than the fun project it used to be. Record labels have been offering me opportunities to talk with artists or have them come by my studio and I've had to decline to all of them because I didn't have time. That's not what I envisioned when I started the show and it's not fair to all of you if I simply "mail it in" each week. You deserve someone that really cares about the music and the show.

My last episode of Noise Complaint will be next week (06/27) and we're going to go out with a bang with an all covers episode. I say that it will be my last episode because the boys at YNotRadio.net want to try and keep the show alive with another host. They have asked me how I felt about it and I told them to go for it. The show has meant a lot to me over the years and I think it would be incredible for someone with the passion I once had to step in and keep it going. It's been a pleasure doing this show for you and I wouldn't trade this time for anything. I've loved every second of it and I'm simply walking away before I start to resent it at all.

Still sick this week. Turns out I have a double ear infection. Not exactly sure how that happened but it sure has made life a little more interesting over the last week. I feel like I'm listening to everything through earmuffs. Thankfully I already enjoy listening to my music very loud so it hasn't been that big of a problem. Let's get into tonight's show.

Braid is back and they have a new EP coming out in August. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about the new single they've released. Maybe it's just me but there seems to be a huge shift in the vocals. If you know anything about Braid you will definitely notice the difference. Take a listen and download "The Right Time" for free HERE.

Trevor and Chad from Face to Face recently sat down with PunkNews.org for an interview. I thought it was pretty interesting to hear their take on the band and why they decided to get back together. Read the whole thing HERE.

Noise Complaint 05/23/11...delayed a bit

Sorry about missing this last night. I woke up from a much needed afternoon nap to find water dripping from my ceiling. That's never a good sign. Turns out there's a busted pipe somewhere in the walls. However, there is good news. The water only leaks when I use the outside faucet. I'm pretty stoked that it's not from any of the inside water use. Guess those plants outside aren't getting water any time soon. OK, on to the good stuff.

The lineup for Insubordination Fest has been announced and it looks pretty bad ass. I just might have to go this year. I can't believe I've lived in Baltimore for 3 years and still haven't been to it yet. This may be the the year. Chixdiggit, Dear Landlord, Iron Chic and the Mixtapes are just the tip of the iceberg. For all of you Black Flag fans, the documentary "Reality 86'd" has been put online for you to enjoy. It was originally released in 1991 and focuses on the band's 1986 tour. Check it out HERE.

Teenage Bottlerocket have released a newish video. It's a brand new video but it's for a song that is about 3 years old. Still fun and worth a watch either way.

It has been beautiful in Baltimore for the last few days and there's no end in sight. It's been nice to spend a little time outdoors for a change. However, that does mean that I got a nasty sunburn. Oh well.

I hate to start the show off on a somber note but I think it is necessary to pay tribute to one of punk rock's most definitive voices. Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex died last week from cancer. She was 53 years old. Although X-Ray Spex only released one official album they still make just about every list of greatest punk rock acts.

I've just come across this band called Pacer. Truth be told, I found them because I was looking up info about Iron Chic. Turns out, Pacer will be releasing a split with Iron Chic soon and you can listen to one of their songs HERE.

You're probably already aware that Small Brown Bike have returned to the scene in a big way with their latest album "Fell & Found." If you're curious what the record sounds like, you can stream the whole thing HERE. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I spent most of this week doing some punk rock research. Basically that means I went searching for some new bands to play on the show. It's easy to grab music from the bigger names and the bigger labels but there's so much other stuff floating around out there. I wanted to make sure they got a fair shake on Noise Complaint as well. Here are a couple of bands I've grown to enjoy.

The Gateway District caught my ear by accident. I can't even tell you how I heard of them but I'm glad I did. CLICK HERE to download a song from their latest album "Perfect's Gonna Fail."

I got some great news this week. I had heard that Boysetsfire was reuniting but I didn't know if I'd be able to see them perform. Looks like I will. They're going to be playing the Trocadero on June 2nd with Defeater opening things up. I will absolutely be there for that.

Fest 10 is looking better by the day. I think this may be the first year I make the pilgrimage down to Gainesville, FL for the three day weekend. If you've been listening to this show for a while then you know that I am very fond of music videos. I know it's kind of a dying medium since there is no major outlet for them to be seen but I still love them. I think we can all thank youtube for single handedly keeping them alive.

I was checking up on some punk rock news and I came across a story about Epitaph Records signing a band called LetLive. I'd never heard of them so I figured I'd look them up. I think I'm in love now. You'll hear the song "The Sick, Sick 6.8 Billion" on the show tonight and you can watch the video here.

That photo above is of Nothington at the Fest 8. Why am I posting a photo of Nothington you ask? Because they have an acoustic 7 inch coming out in May. It's going to have 3 new songs as well as a stripped down version of "Not Looking Down."

I have one of the worst headaches I have ever experienced in my life right now. The only time my head has hurt more was after my two concussions. I'm going to have to dig up some Advil at some point here. But first, there is a little radio show to deal with.

You all know how I feel about Off With Their Heads at this point. Just in case it hasn't been made clear, I love them. They've released a new video for their song Clear The Air. Take a look below...

Krazy Fest is back! I never thought I'd be able to speak...or type...those words. If you're not familiar with the history of Krazy Fest, it was the biggest and best punk rock festival in America up until it was discontinued back in 2004. Lots of things happening in the world of punk rock this week. Let's start with Rise Against. They've released the cover art for their upcoming album "Endgame." What do you think?

Green Day has released a trailer for their upcoming live DVD. It's set to come out on March 15th. I think the title will be made very clear when you watch the video below.

Anti-Flag seems to get blamed for just about every tragedy that takes place in this country. I'm surprised they weren't blamed with the birth of Sarah Palin. Not surprisingly, their name was brought up in relation with the recent shooting in Arizona. Apparently the shooter was a fan of the band. In response to the allegations that they were somehow responsible for his actions, they released this statement...

[The comments about Anti-Flag]] has led to some discussion in the media and elsewhere regarding Anti-Flag and what Anti-Flag stands for. For well over a decade Anti-Flag has endorsed non-violent progressive change and has lobbied for peace, equality, justice, and health care (including mental health care) for all people of America and the world. Anti-Flag unconditionally condemns the heinous actions of Mr. Loughner and our heartfelt condolences and best wishes go out to every single person affected by Mr. Loughner's senseless act of violence. Our message is and always has been very clear, violence in any form is unacceptable.

I'm writing this as I watch the BCS Championship game. I don't normally get super into college football games but for some reason I've been intrigued by this matchup. I think Auburn is overrated (along with the rest of the SEC) but they are a hell of a lot bigger than Oregon is. That's enough football talk.

Looks like we might get some new Sex Pistols music this year. They've reunited a few times over the years but it's mostly been just to pad their bank accounts. John Lydon, who is releasing new music with Public Image LTD this year, said that he's been invigorated and is interested in writing new Pistols music. We'll see what happens. Noise Complaint 01/03/11 Most Anticipated Releases of 2011 Episode

This is without a doubt my favorite episode of the year. I love looking forward at what the near may or may not bring. I usually do this show on the second week of the year so that I have a little more time to compile some new tracks. I changed it up this year because so many artists have been releasing singles early via the interweb. You know, I think this internet thing is really catching on.

At any rate, the show is only an hour long now so the playlist isn't as extensive as it's been in previous years. I still think I've come up with a nice group of songs though. One thing I'm extremely excited about is the new album from Social Distortion. For the last 3 years they have been in the Most Anticipated show and they haven't come through with a new album. This year it will finally be happening. And pretty soon too.

It's that time of year again. Time for the annual Noise Complaint Christmas Special. I came across a few new tracks...at least they're new to me...and I've got all the punk rock Christmas standards. I love this episode because it's nice easy way to close out the year.

Noise Complaint 12/13/10 Best of 2010 Edition

I can't believe it's finally here. Doing shows like this one really make the year seem like it goes by crazy fast. I look forward to this episode every year because it gives me the opportunity to look back at the best songs that came out over the last 365 days or so.

I got some great suggestions from all of you and I think I was able to put together one hell of a show. I'm proud of it anyway. I think, if nothing else, it gives a good look at the wide variety of what the world of punk rock has turned into. It's not just about 3 simple chords and some angry lyrics.

Oh yeah, the show is 2 hours tonight. I'm excited to have a whole extra hour to rock out for you.

Before I give you the playlist, let me just thank you for all of the support this year. There have been some ups and downs (particularly involving the old YRock disappearing) but I think we've come out stronger than before. On a personal level, it was a decent year for me and this show had a lot to do with it. It's a constant every week that I look forward to. I need to thank you for that. Those gentlemen above make up the band H2O. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have seen them in my lifetime but let me assure you that it's a lot. The last time I saw them was probably close to 8 or 9 years ago up in Philadelphia. It's been a long time. I finally caught up with them again in Baltimore last Thursday and it was like nothing had changed. Even though the guys are all pushing 40, they rocked like they did 10 years ago. I was pretty impressed. That's why I'm kicking off tonight's show with their song "Still Here." I know the song is about being Straight Edge but I think the message also works for their story. Most punk bands don't stand the test of time. The members eventually have to give up and find real jobs. I realize they took some time apart but H2O has stayed true to their roots.

What made the show even better was one of the opening acts. Their name was Wisdom In Chains (pictured above). These guys blew me away. You'll hear a track from them tonight as well. If you want to check out more from them, CLICK HERE.

You may have heard of The Damned Things. That's the band featuring a couple guys from Fall Out Boy, a couple guys from Anthrax and the singer from Every Time I Die. It's probably that randomness that has me super excited to hear what they can do musically. I just had my first chance. They've made a video for the song "We've Got A Situation Here" and you can watch it right here...

And one more thing. Flogging Molly has announced their 2011 Green 17 tour. It kicks off on February 8th. I'm a little sad to say that it doesn't come to Baltimore or D.C. It does make a stop in Philly though. To see the full list of dates, CLICK HERE.

Good evening everyone. Not a whole lot going on this week. It would appear that the punk rock world slowed down for the Thanksgiving holiday. I'll just keep it simple this week.

Civet made the news. Literally. Their van was stolen and it ended up being involved in a high speed chase that involved gun fire and a broken fire hydrant. You can see the video HERE.

I think the thought of eating my weight in turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce got to my head a little early this week. I've made a "New Year's Resolution" already. Stupid Internet. I sat down last night all set to update the website only to find out that my internet at home wasn't working. I feel terrible about that because I have so many great things for you this week. My apologies for being late here...

Let's start with the free/new music.

Glassjaw has been in the headlines a lot over the last year or two but we haven't been getting much music from them. Now we have a few songs to satisfy our appetites until their new album comes out (whenever that may be). You can listen to, and download for free, a new track called Natural Born Farmer RIGHT HERE.

Speaking of Glassjaw, they sold a 7 inch with two songs on it over the weekend, but they did it in a rather unconventional way. They were selling it through a local pizza shop in New York. Here's the flier...

This news makes me a happy man. Unwritten Law are planning to release their new album in March of 2011. The only problem with that news is that it's still 4 months away. I'm not sure I can wait that long. It will be called "Swan" and here are the final cover art options...

I've been typing or writing today's date a lot today for some reason and it keeps freaking me out. I feel like I'm writing in binary code. That comment is going to be either very funny to some people or it will just make me look like a very sad and pathetic person.

At any rate, I've got some great music for you. The big thing tonight is a brand new song from Face to Face. Their new record doesn't hit the stores until January but they've been kind enough to bless us with a new song now. You can even download it for free from their WEBSITE. That's how I got it.

Frank Turner has a new EP on the way out soon and he's already made a video. I find it fascinating that so many artists still make videos even though the masses never get to see them. It's a great song. Take a look/listen...

Back in the day, I used to try and do a "CD of the Week" kind of thing. I'd feature a few songs from an artist and get some giveaways to send out to you. Well when we shortened the show down to an hour that kind of thing had to go away. I know, excuses excuses. At any rate, I've got a suggestion for you this week.

I think you should check out the new record from None More Black called "Icons." Comes out in stores tomorrow and is definitely a solid choice.

Mike Herrera from MXPX has a side project called Tumbledown that you may have heard about. They've got a new record on the way and here's a new video for you to get a sneak peak at. I think it's pretty rad.

The great thing about punk rock music is that there are no "release seasons." In the pop and rock world, artists try to release their records at certain times of the year because they know that more people are out shopping at that time. You end up getting the biggest releases in the Spring and Fall. Punk rock bands couldn't give a shit about that rule and they release their albums as soon as they're ready to go. I love it for so many reasons but mostly because it means that each week I can bring you some great new music.

This week I've got some tracks for you from the new Less Than Jake record "TV EP." You'll hear a few random songs throughout the entire show. If you want to get a peek at what the album has in store for you, watch this nice little video they put together...

There has been some really great music coming out of the UK over the last couple of years. Bands like Gallows and the King Blues have become main stays on Noise Complaint. Tonight you'll hear some new tracks from Sharks and Random Hand along with a song from The Revolution Continues (otherwise known as TRC). I just came across them and I'm loving it. As I was preparing to update the website with information about tonight's show I realized that I never put up the playlist from last week. I'm not quite sure how that happened but I apologize for the error.

I found some info about some upcoming releases that I'm pretty psyched about. Both of them just so happen to coming out on Fat Wreck.

Both Screeching Weasel and Smoke Or Fire have new records coming out on November 9th. It's weird to think of November being so close but it is right around the corner.

I've heard of bands releasing singles before the new album coming out but this is ridiculous. Rival Schools have a new record hitting the stores next year and they've already released the first video. I've heard the album won't be in stores until March of 2011 which means you have about 6 months to enjoy this while you wait for the rest of the songs...

I do this show every week (except on random holidays) yet somehow I completely forgot about tonight's show. I was sitting around yesterday night when I realized I had to start putting things together for it. So tonight is a bit of a rush job. That's not to say that it's a bad episode. R.I.P. Crime In Stereo
I hate to start off the week with bad news but Crime In Stereo have decided to call it quits after 8 years and 3 full length albums. These guys have been one of my favorites over the last few years. They've been able to alter their style to stay fresh without losing their edge. To read an explanation from Alex Dunne, CLICK HERE. Another one bites the dust I guess.

The Queers have a new album titled "Back to the Basement" set for a November release. They've posted a couple new songs on their Myspace page. The latest is called "Fucked In The Head." CLICK HERE to take a listen.

Stephen Blush's book "American Hardcore" is being re-released as a second edition with 80 new pages. It's a great read for anyone interested in learning more about the beginnings of hardcore music here in the states. If you want some more info about this CLICK HERE.

Well well well. Do I have a special show for you tonight. It's not everyday that I have the opportunity to say that Jim Lindberg will be joining me on the show. That's right. THE Jim Lindberg. Formerly the lead singer of Pennywise, Lindberg is now working with his new project called The Black Pacific.

Their debut album hits stores on September 14th from Side One Dummy Records. I've heard 2 songs on it so far, both of which you can hear on the show tonight, and I'll admit that my curiosity has been struck. Especially after talking to him about it. It was recorded by producer Mark Trombino before he quit working with the band during the Futures sessions. The song didn't make the cut for the final album but I think it's pretty great so I'm sharing tonight.

2nd week back and I'm feeling pretty good about the show. In fact, I'm considering the thought of getting it back to 2 hours again. The new set up on YNotRadio.net makes doing the show a whole lot easier for me. The biggest thing is that I no longer have to edit songs. That saves me so much time. We'll see.

My little hiatus didn't last as long as I expected it to but I'm back and ready to give you the best the world of punk rock has to offer. Before anyone says it...I know I need a new logo. I'm waiting for a friend to help me take the YRockonXPN piece out of the image. It should be up by next week.

There is one real change to the show. It's only going to be an hour for now. I may have addressed this earlier but the changes at YRock weren't the only reason why I wanted to shut down the show. It was starting to get to the point where doing the show wasn't fun anymore. It became work. Since this is a volunteer thing for me I told myself that I would only do it as long as it was fun. Now I'm ready to start a new endeavor on YNotRadio.net. It might be a little shorter but that means I have to squeeze even more rock into an hour than I did before.

Because getting this show back on the radio was a bit of a surprise to me, I don't have a ton of stuff to post up here tonight but I did find this great video of Dead to Me performing "Cruel World" acoustic. I thought it was worth posting.

It's here. A day that I didn't think would come so soon but knew would come eventually. Tonight is the final episode of Noise Complaint. I always say that Punk is definitely not dead. You just need to know where to find it. I'm sorry that I'm closing down this outlet but I assure you there are many other places out there.

Every time I've done an all punk rock covers show in the past it has been a huge success. As a thank you to all of you, I'm going to close things out with a covers show tonight. I think I've dug up some gems (with a lot of help from your feedback) and we're going to have a good time.

It's a little hard to believe that this is the second to last episode of Noise Complaint. I believe there have been just over 120 episodes. It's hard to say goodbye but I'm not closing the door on the show just yet. There's always the chance it can come back but as of right now I have no plans for that to happen.

Well everyone, it pains me to say this but it is a sad day for Noise Complaint. After nearly 140 over the last 2 years and 10 months, Noise Complaint is coming to an end. It was a tough decision but in the end I think it's the right one. Over the last few months it has become increasingly less...how can I put this...less "fun" and more like work to do this show and that's when I realized it was time to think about stepping away. Also, the host station, YRockonXPN.org is going through some major changes right now and that gave me the extra push I needed to make the call.

I want to thank everyone who has been around since day one or even day 140. I wouldn't still be doing the show at all if it weren't for the amazing emails and comments I've had from you. There is a chance that Noise Complaint will come back in some form in the future but for now we're on an indefinite hiatus.

All that being said, the last show is on June 28th and I've decided that it's going to be an all punk rock covers show. Those are always a ton of fun to put together and I need your help picking the songs. Let me know what you want to hear. Either comment on our FACEBOOK page or shoot me an EMAIL.

I always hear a lot of people pissing and moaning about the Warped Tour and how there aren't a lot of punk bands on it anymore. I hope you didn't miss me too much last week. I'll admit that while doing this show does take up a good amount of time during my week, I do miss it when I don't have to do it. At least when I have a week off I know that I will have plenty of new music to give you when I come back. That's the story tonight. Anyone else watch Lost last night? I have to admit, I was a little disappointed. As a series finale, I thought it was decent but as a Lost series finale, it came up short for me. We can all debate it for the rest of time and we'll never know the answers because I don't think the writers ever even had answers to the things in the first place. Not only was the show probably the most creative thing to ever hit the TV but it also created an internet storm of things as well. Viral marketing? Lost revolutionized that. Blogosphere debates? Lost is still one of the most talked about things on the web.

Now on to bigger and better things...

Bad Religion put out their 30 Years Live free download last week. You can still get it for free at their WEBSITE. It's pretty rad, even if they left a few of my favorites off of it.

For any of you Philadelphia residents checking out the show tonight, you might want to read THIS ARTICLE. There is new legislation in front of the Philadelphia City Council that could seriously hurt live music in the city. Maybe take a look and see what you think. Life has been pretty crazy lately. I suppose that's a good thing. The busier I am, the less worried I am about losing my real job. I say "real job" because this show is kind of a job but since it's volunteer, it's not really a job. Does that make sense? I hope so.

On the show tonight I have a little tribute to Walter Schreifels. He's got a new solo album out there now called "An Open Letter to the Scene" and I thought it would be fitting to play some tracks from all of the amazing bands that he has been a part of over the last 25-30 years.

The Vandals are being sued again over the cover of their 2004 album "Hollywood Potato Chip." You can read the whole story HERE. Apparently they were sued once back when the album came out because of the artwork but they complied and stopped using it. Now they're being sued over it again. I'm really sorry I couldn't get the playlist and other info up last night. My internet was crapping out all night long. Trust me when I say I was about ready to rip all the wires out of the wall and then...well...that's about as far as my brain got before I just decided to go to bed instead.

One of my top 5 all time favorite bands is Piebald. Back in 2008 I flew up to Boston from Washington DC for about 13 hours just to see their final show at the Middle East. I don't know what's worse. Getting shut out at Record Store Day on Saturday or the Red Sox getting swept by the Rays. Both have torn me up pretty good over the last few days. I think the Record Store Day thing bugs me more. I had a list of about 25 records I wanted to pick up but by the time I finally got into The Sound Garden in Baltimore they were all sold out. The only one they had left was the Weezer EP but honestly I didn't want to hear it bad enough that I was willing to sit in line for 45 minutes. I guess there's always next year.

Regardless of my rough weekend, we have a great show tonight featuring new music from The Get Up Kids, Our Last Night and Mustard Plug.

Fat Mike was down at SXSW a few weeks ago for a solo performance of Cokie the Clown. What transpired either shocked or horrified just about everyone in the audience. I wish I were there to see it but since I wasn't, I have to rely on THIS SUMMARY.

One of my favorite bands in high school was Braid. You can hear their influence in so many bands these days (whether they want to admit that or not). Polyvinyl records has re-issued 5 of their albums on vinyl. All you collectors out there can get your hands on them HERE.

That's what it's all about tonight. The Warped Tour is making it's annual trip through Camden, NJ. This year the show will be on July 16th. Tickets go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster. There are a lot of pretty cool bands that will be there and the second hour of tonight's show will be focused on them.

I was in Phoenix, AZ last weekend and I got to check something off of my bucket list. My all time favorite band is Jimmy Eat World and their album Clarity is at the top of my list. While in Phoenix, I was able to listen to "Goodbye Sky Harbor" by Jimmy Eat World while waiting for my flight at Sky Harbor International Airport. It sounds cheesy but it made me feel good.

Well since I was away, I don't have a ton to put on the site tonight. Big show with lots of new music. Brand new tracks from Streetlight Manifesto, Cancer Bats, Smoke Or Fire and even a debut from Against Me! Their new album wasn't set to come out until June-ish but it was leaked super early. Apparently Tom Gable from the band isn't even all that mad. He posted the lyrics to all of the songs on his blog.

I took advantage of some of the nice weather we had in Baltimore this weekend to finish up a book I was working on called Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby. Hornby also wrote High Fidelity, About A Boy and Fever Pitch. I enjoyed it and give it my seal of approval if you're looking for something to read.

On to the music. New stuff on the way from The Menzingers. Their next full length, Chamberlain Waits, comes out on April 13th but there will be an ep called Hold On Dodge hitting stores on March 16th. Here's the cover art for both...

Dillinger Escape Plan has a new album coming on March 23rd and here's the video for the first single titled Farewell, Mona Lisa.

Let's get started with Big D & the Kids Table. Another great video directed by our friend Dan Dobi. This one is for "We Can Live Anywhere."

Converge released their latest album back in the fall called "Axe to Fall." Here's their video for the title track.

Everyone's pretty excited for the new album from Alkaline Trio. It's called "This Addiction" and it hits stores soon. Here's the first video off the record.

I don't find very many things from Saturday Night Live to be all that funny but I did catch this skit and I was rolling. I wish my parents would have something cool like this to do at my wedding. Dave Grohl along with Ashton Kutcher kick some ass on stage with a song that seems to be inspired by Black Flag's TV Party and Suicidal Tendencies Institutionalized.

And last but not least, a video from the Cancer Bats. They're doing they're own version of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys and I personally think it's pretty brilliant. They're going to be releasing it as a single soon. For now, you can enjoy the video.

Most Anticipated Releases of 2010 Episode

This is my favorite show of the year. I love the anticipation for what is on the way to the record stores each year. The reason I like this episode more than the Best Of one is that many of these albums will end up sucking but at least for now we get to hope for the best.

I'm not a huge fan of Kristen Stewart but I think her representatives have done a great job of getting her in the right roles. As long as she plays an angsty young girl then she's all set. When I read that she would be playing Joan Jett in the new movie about The Runaways I wanted to call the movie execs up and congratulate them on a great choice. Maybe I'll be wrong but for now I'm pretty psyched about this movie...

Noise Complaint Holiday Special 2009

The holiday special is my second favorite show to do every year (My favorite being the most anticipated releases show at the beginning of the year). I love taking a look back at some of the classic songs that we only get to check out for about a month each year. At least for me it's only a month. I refuse to listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

I dug up some new songs this year and squeezed them in. I'm pretty pleased with the show this year but there was a video I wanted to share with you. This is the video for Merry Swiftmas written by Evan Taubenfeld. I think it's a pretty catchy and creative song.

Noise Complaint Best Of 2009 Playlist 12/14/09

I hate this show every year. I'll get more into that in a second. First, I find it interesting that it took me until the 13th of December to see my favorite show of the year. I went to the Ottobar in Baltimore last night to catch New Found Glory and Dashboard Confessional. I was surprised at how old the crowd was. It was mostly mid to late 20 somethings which is something I'm not used to at this kind of show but I suppose as the bands have aged, so have their fans. The exciting thing about this show is that it was an all acoustic show. I've never seen NFG do an all acoustic set before and I have to admit, they killed it. It was fun to watch their singer, Jordan, try to hold himself back from jumping into the crowd though. Their shows are usually so energetic and intense but they had to tone it down a bit for last night. I was also pretty blown away by Dashboard Confessional. He came out with guns blazing from "Swiss Army Romance" and "the Places You Have Come to Fear the Most." At one point he even asked the crowd, "So what do you want to hear? New stuff or all old songs?" Naturally, the crowd responded with a resounding, "Old!" The rest of the show made me reminiscent of shows back in 1999 and 2000 up in Philadelphia when I'd show up and there was this skinny tattooed guy up on stage all alone playing these acoustic songs. As much as I wanted to hate him, I just couldn't. Neither could the crowds as they would sing along with every word. I must have seen him 10 times my freshman year because he just always seemed to be opening every show. It was good to have those memories back.

Since this is the best of version of Noise Complaint, I figured I'd share with you my 5 favorite shows from the year. These are in no particular order as they were all amazing...

By now you're probably asking yourself, "Why does he hate this show every year?" I'll answer that question. I hate it because it puts so much pressure on me to piece together a 2 hour representation of the year in punk rock music. I know punk songs are short but is simply not enough time. After I sat back and listened to this show I thought of so many great albums that didn't make it. Records from bands like Teenage Bottlerocket, Landmines, Cobra Skulls, and Outbreak. All great albums but they didn't make the cut. The good thing about this year was that you got really into it. I had so many suggestions and requests for this year's best of show that it became pretty easy to put it together. I always say, this show is not all about me. It's much more about you so if there are some songs/artists that you want to hear, tell me. I'm all ears. You certainly told me this year and I love that. Thank you so much for that.

I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for listening to my little show Noise Complaint. This was a project that I took on when I was leaving Philadelphia for a job in DC about 2 1/2 years ago and it's still growing. I honestly didn't think I'd be doing the show 6 months later let along 2 1/5 years. You have all shown me such great support and that's what keeps me going.

I have also noticed the audience getting wider. At first it was mostly Philadelphia area listeners because of the station but now I'm getting emails from all over the world. Over the last few weeks I have sent out prizes to Mexico, Oregon, England and Louisiana just to name a few.

One of my goals when I have some extra cash is to make some stickers so we can get the word out there even further. I'll keep you updated on that. Thanks again for everything. You'll never know how much it truly means to me.

Cherry Poppin Daddies and Noise Complaint Playlist 10-26-09

When was the last time you heard from the Cherry Poppin Daddies? It's definitely been a while. Well they are back now and they've returned with a vengeance. They released a brand new record Susquehanna and have also put out a compilation of their best ska tracks called Skaboy JFK. Chuck Ragan and the playlist 10-19-09

I love Chuck Ragan. I was also a huge fan of Hot Water Music and even though his new solo music is a huge departure from that sound, it's still incredible. His Revival Tour is a great idea as well. I caught it in Baltimore on Friday. Any time you get a chance to see the front men of Hot Water Music, Avail, The Loved Ones and Sparta all on the same stage together playing music, you have to take it. Ok here are a couple videos for you tonight. First it's the trailer for the documentary, "Let Them Know: The Story of Youth Brigade and BYO Records." I'm looking forward to getting a chance to see this. The CD they put out is incredible too.

Then there's this song I just came across. Yes, it's not punk rock at all. There is something about it though that just reels me in. It has a bit of a Postal Service feel and I can't stop listening to it. Maybe you'll feel the same...

I'm jumping on my soap box

I recently read an article that was posted on Yahoo music. The article is based on the idea that punk rock is dead and has been since the late 70's. You can read the article HERE but be careful. It might make blood pour out of your ears out of confusion.

I don't even know where to begin. I'll start with the idea that punk rock died "once the Sex Pistols imploded and The Clash's Joe Strummer had the temerity to kick Mick Jones out of the band." Well first of all, these events happened 5 years apart. The Sex Pistols "imploded" after their US tour in 1978 and Mick Jones was kicked out of The Clash in 1983. There's a big span of time in between there. If punk rock really died in 1978 then that means The Ramones classics like "Kkk Took My Baby Away" and "I Wanna Be Sedated" are not punk. Bands like Black Flag, Bad Brains, Minor Threat and Circle Jerks, just to name a few, are then also not punk rock according to the author of this article. At this point in the article, Mr. Shawn Amos already lost my attention but I read on to see if he had any other points.

He claims that another death blow to punk rock is the creation of Hot Topic in 1988. That may be true to an extent. I saw my first Hot Topic in about 1998 when I was in high school. I'll admit, I was upset when I saw it. This was a bit before bands were selling merch online and you could only get shirts for your favorite local band at their shows. Hot Topic changed that and it didn't sit well with me. It was like a rite of passage to go to the show and get a shirt. Now these other kids were buying them thinking it would make them "cool." That being said, no real punk rock fans actually shop at Hot Topic. Yes, I have purchased a couple things from the store like hair dye and a Harry Potter jacket (yes I'm a nerd) but I don't buy into the image that they sell. In fact, the last time I was at a Hot Topic I think the only punk rock related thing in the store that I saw was a Ramones t-shirt on the wall. I will reiterate the point...real punk rock fans do not shop at Hot Topic for their image.

Here's a great line from the article. "Punk was born on the street but is now bred in major label board rooms with clothing manufacturer tie-ins." The author has it right on one end. The Ramones started what we know as punk rock from the streets of New York City. The Sex Pistols were all but created by a guy that owned a clothing store. Hypocrisy?

That's enough commentary on the first two paragraphs of the article. The author then goes on to use specific bands as examples for his point. Green Day, Avril Lavigne, Blink 182, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan. If I see the phrase "punk is dead" and then see names like Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan, the article is irrelevant. A person that considers Avril, Good Charlotte and Simple Plan to be punk in any way shape or form has no clue about the music in general. Sure, the mainstream audience may put those artists into some form of punk category but that doesn't make them punk rock. I remember hearing that Avril Lavigne was punk rock because of her looks. I'm fairly certain that I have never seen anyone wearing socks on their hands at a punk rock concert. Green Day and Blink 182 will get a pass from me. Green Day has matured and evolved and at this point probably are not a punk band but they do have a strong history. Blink 182 is a similar situation. They capitalized on their success but their roots are based in the pop punk world from the mid 90's.

An argument that I have made countless times is that album sales do not determine what style of music you play. Green Day has sold millions of records but they got their start at the same place where many bands have. They toured the country in a van while playing basements of peoples houses. They finally got a shot and took it. I have no issue with that. Rise Against and AFI are in similar situations currently.

To summarize...the author of this article is full of shit. If he really thinks punk rock is dead, I suggest he takes some time to listen to bands like Teenage Bottlerocket, The Grit, and Banner Pilot to start. There are plenty of artists around that still embody the idea of punk rock. You just have to find them and not wait for MTV to tell you who they are.

I don't know about all of you but I'm definitely a fan of The Swellers. Yes even though they are signed to Fueled By Ramen Records. Harry Potter and the Gallows?

That picture is real and is not photo shopped. That is a picture of the two stars from the Harry Potter franchise with Frank from the Gallows. According to punknews.org, the two were dressed incognito to go see their show at the Reading Festival and then ended up backstage for a picture. I wonder if we'll hear "Leeches" on the next Harry Potter soundtrack.

Wow what a show last night at the VMA's huh. Think what you want to about country music and about Taylor Swift but what Kanye West did to her was pretty lame. I'm sure you've seen the video of it so I'm not going to waste space here with that. I did see this picture though and thought it was pretty funny...

It's a big week with a few debuts on the show. I had last week off so I'm playing catch up. I did just see this video for the new single from Ever Time I Die. The album is bad ass by the way. Here's the video for Wanderlust...

Noise Complaint Playlist 08-31-09

Can you believe August is over as of midnight tonight? I don't know about you but I'm OK with it. The crazy heat of the Summer is not really my bag. I prefer the cooler weather of the Fall. But that's me.

I spent some time looking for new music to play for you all tonight and I think I found some pretty bad ass stuff. I even have a couple debuts from Frank Turner and Every Time I Die as well. Should be a great show.

And did you hear about Pennywise? Unreal huh. Jim Lindberg is leaving the band to pursue other options. What those other options are...I have no idea. I did read that he was working on some sort of documentary based on his book "Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life." It's actually a pretty interesting book. I also heard he would be recording some new music on his own so who knows what's going to happen. It's just crazy that after 20 years he just wants to up and leave. On top of that, the rest of the guys want to keep the band going and find a new singer. That's even more crazy. You'll hear some tracks spanning their career tonight on the show along with everything else.

Also, I can't forget about the brand new video from Big D and the Kids Table. It's directed by Dan Dobi who is a good friend of Noise Complaint. I think it's one of his best to date. I have to admit, the female backup singers were a nice addition...especially the blonde.
